Hart Davis Hart Wine Co., internationally renowned wine auction house and retailer, is thrilled to announce a single-owner auction from the cellar of esteemed Del Posto Restaurant in New York City. To be held Friday, July 24th and Saturday, July 25th, the sale will offer more than 3,000 lots of over 30,000 bottles estimated in excess of $3.1-4.5 million. Bidders can utilize HDH’s industry-leading bidding platform, available via their mobile app or online, to place absentee and live bids.

A Michelin starred, Wine Spectator Grand Award-winning fine dining restaurant in Manhattan, Del Posto, founded in 2005, boasts one of the most comprehensive collections of Italian wine in the world and represents every wine region in Italy. This outstanding cellar has been assembled by restaurateur and wine expert Joe Bastianich.

The collection includes an impressive selection of Barolo and Barbaresco from Bruno Giacosa, Angelo Gaja, Bartolo Mascarello, Giacomo Conterno, Giuseppe Rinaldi, and Vietti, alongside Super Tuscans from Tenuta dell’Ornellaia, Sassicaia, and Tignanello. A selection of rare Burgundy is offered from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti as well.

Collectors should take special note of the vertical of Barolo Riserva, Monfortino from Giacomo Conterno spanning vintages of 1941 to 2013, including rare large format bottlings.

With a careful eye on provenance, the majority of these fine wines were sourced directly from the wineries through Mr. Bastianich’s personal relationships. Some bottlings are singular examples made exclusively for the restaurant. The wines have been stored in an immaculate climate-controlled cellar at Del Posto as well as professional wine storage facilities.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to a to be determined children's charity.

Antonio Galloni writes:

I am delighted to introduce the Del Posto cellar. In reading through these pages, you will soon discover that this is one of the single most important collections of fine Italian wines to ever go to auction.

As someone who has grown up around Italian wine, I can only marvel at how far Italian wine has come over the last three decades or so. It was not that long ago that the image of Italian wine for most consumers was inexpensive Chianti in a straw-covered bottle, served somewhere with a red checkered tablecloth. Today, the finest Italian wines have joined the ranks of the collectible elite.

From the very beginning Del Posto was a temple to Italian wine, the grandeur and ambition of its list every bit as breathtaking as the dramatic staircase that graced the main dining room. Joe Bastianich and his partners built a truly remarkable program that captured all of the dynamic richness of Italy.

Although this cellar is full of iconic bottles from the best estates and vintages, it is also brimming with many under the radar gems that will reward those who take the time to look beyond the usual suspects. Wine lovers will also find plenty of treasures from Burgundy, Champagne and other regions around the world.

Del Posto will always be a very special place. It was where we did our first charity dinners, where we held the first editions of our Festa del Barolo and Tuscany in the City events, and where I attended numerous tastings and verticals that showcased the crown jewels of Italian wine.

I admit to having mixed emotions in seeing these wines go to auction. On the one hand, this sale represents the end of an era, and yet these bottles are sure to bring much joy to those fortunate enough to acquire them.
