Hart Davis Hart’s May Auction Brings in $4.3 Million, 100% Sold

Hart Davis Hart Wine Co. hosted a two-day Auction of Finest & Rarest Wines over the weekend, bringing in a total of $4.3 million against a pre-sale estimate of $2.7-4.1 million. Bidders from five continents participated, bringing 68% of lots to sell at or above the high end of estimates and, once again, all 1,796 lots were sold.

Red Burgundy continued to see strong results this weekend. The 202 lots brought in $730,000 against a pre-sale estimate of $474,000-710,000. Highlights included 6 bottles of 2009 Richebourg, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti which garnered $17,925 (lot 265, est. $10,000-15,000);  a full case of 2011 Chambertin, Armand Rousseau which brought in $19,120 (lot 1380, est. $13,000-19,000); and 6 bottles of 2012 La Tâche, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti which sold for $20,315 (lot 1220, est. $13,000-19,000).

Demand was also strong for Red Bordeaux with a magnum of 1948 Château Latour garnering $6,573 (lot 645, est. $3,000-4,500); a full case of 2000 Château Angélus bringing in $7,170 (lot 1545, est. $3,500-5,500); and a double-magnum of 2010 Château Pétrus selling for $26,290 (lot 1447, est. $9,000-14,000), a new world record for the wine.

Additional highlights of the sale included 6 magnums of MV Krug, Grande Cuvée which sold for $5,975 (lot 130, est. $1,500-2,200); 6 bottles of 2000 Ermitage, Cuvée Cathelin, J. L. Chave which garnered $31,070 (lot 1413, est. $19,000-28,000); 1 double-magnum of 2002 Sine Qua Non Red Wine, Just For The Love Of It which brought in $5,378 (lot 1624, est. $2,200-3,200); and 6 bottles of 2011 Barolo Riserva, Le Rocche del Falletto, Bruno Giacosa which sold for $3,346 (lot 1209, est. $1,200-1,800).
