HDH Achieves Skyrocketing Hammer Prices in 2024's First Auction of Finest & Rarest Wines
Last week, Hart Davis Hart held its first Auction of Finest & Rarest Wines of 2024, setting the tone for the year with skyrocketing hammer prices, an aggressive bidding pool, and an upwardly trending market in all categories. Bringing in $5,468,619, the sale achieved a 100% sell-through rate over 1,531 lots. Bidders joined the live auction from over 15 different countries, culminating in the fastest increase in prices in years with prices up 15% sale over sale. Chairman & CEO, Paul Hart remarked, "In my entire career, I cannot recall such a dramatic rise in prices in such a short time period. Things are heating up."
Topping the charts was Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, 'Romanée-Conti' in several significant vintages. Rousseau's Chambertin outperformed in all its forms. Chave's legendary 1998 Ermitage Cuvée Cathelin hit records in 6pk and in 3L Jeroboam. Every category experienced an impressively high proportion of lots over the high estimate, particularly Port, Sauternes, Rhône, and White Burgundy.

As the global market continues its upswing, consigning wine to auction presents an enormous and immediate opportunity.
Reach out to the HDH team about consigning in upcoming auctions.
