Hart Davis Hart's August Auction of Fine & Rare Wines realized over $5 million and achieved a 100% sell through rate of over 4700 lots, truly showcasing that there is plenty of opportunity for both buyers and consignors to find success on the auction market. We here at HDH could not be more excited about these spectacular results and are looking forward to the upcoming fall season!

This auction was a true testament to the mixed lot, the several hundred featured realized an overall average hammer of 162% over low estimate. Bidders were actively competing on cellar-building opportunities like a three bottle mix of Rioja, Viña Tondonia R. López de Heredia Viña Tondonia, S.A. that sold for $657 (lot 2546, est. $220-320); six mixed bottles of 1990s Chambolle-Musigny, Ghislaine Barthod that realized $1,912 (lot 1401, est. $500-750); and a seven bottle mixed lot of 1999 Meursault from various producers that sold for $598 (lot 3771, est. $220-320).

The wines of California comprised a major portion of this sale, and bidders vigorously drove hammers up, realizing an overall average result of 172% over low estimate. While all of these lots saw impressive results, some of the biggest highlights include two bottles of 1982 Heitz Cellar Cabernet Sauvignon, Bella Oaks Vineyard that realized $380 (lot 4670, est. $100-150); three bottles of 2016 Tusk Estates Red Wine, L'Orange that sold for $2629 (lot 3549, est. $650-950); and a single magnum of 2009 Schrader Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon, Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard, Old Sparky sold for $1673 (lot 1728, est. $550-850).

Outside of California, additional highlights include a lot featuring one bottle and one magnum of 1985 Pommard, Les Jarollières La Pousse d'Or, which achieved an astonishing price of $1,792 (lot 1397, est. $250-380); a single bottle of 1964 Veuve Clicquot, Brut that sold for $777 (lot 3288, est. $200-300); a single jeroboam of 1990 Brunello di Montalcino Castello Banfi that sold for $956 (lot 1522, est. $320-480); and a bottle of 1953 Château Canon realized a price of $837 (est. $250-380).

During the marathon three day, 4700+ lot sale, our auctioneers were kept busy by a huge audience of bidders tuning in from all over the world. Facilitated by HDH's industry leading platform, collectors were active and energized through this incredible depth of wine. We're excited for this momentum to continue into the fall.
